Ocean Water Testing…

Testing the Water in Alamitos Bay (Long Beach, CA)

Our Founder, William Hudson, collects weekly water samples in Alamitos Bay as a trained community scientist with Clean Bay Collective, a community powered monitoring effort run by the nonprofit Algalita.

On each visit he tests the basics that show how healthy the water is: nitrate, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, and temperature. Those readings go into the Clean Bay Collective Science Hub, where they join data from other residents sampling across the bay. One reading does not say much. A lot of readings over time show what is actually changing.

It connects directly to the rest of Sustainable Alpha Partners’ work. Most of what we do at Sustainable Alpha Partners happens inside Long Beach small businesses, and what goes down their drains ends up in the bay. Testing the water is the other end of the same system.

This is one metric on our scorecard that tells us how effective we are with our small business partners.
